El Dia de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead
<p>Spend the day learning about and enjoying activities surrounding the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, held at Mission San Jos&eacute; 701 East Pyron Avenue San Antonio, Texas 78214; from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is free of charge. The park will host activities and exhibits to explain the history and meaning behind Day of the Dead, its symbols, and the relevance it holds in our communities today. Ofrendas, or altars, can be viewed in the Visitor Center and inside San Jos&eacute; Church. Participate in making traditional papel picados, paper marigolds, clay skulls, and skeleton puppets and masks.</p>

First Sundays for Families: Día de los Muertos
Join us on Sunday, November 1, 2009 as we celebrate the rich artistic traditions of Día de los Muertos with papel picado, sugar skulls, a special nicho workshop, Posada-inspired prints as well as a tour through the Latin American Folk Art Collection. Enjoy the acoustic folk corridos of local band Inozentes and taste mouth-watering pan dulce and hot chocolate on SAMA’s new pavilion, along the banks of the San Antonio River. Seven-acre maze at the Graff Family Farm is open Fri.-Sun. through Nov. 29. Try to maneuver your way through a labyrinth of corn stalks that reach over your head. Tusks! Family Day
A day of hands-on activities, demonstrations and storytelling takes place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Institute of Texan Cultures in conjunction with the exhibit "Tusks! Ice Age Mammoths and Mastodons." Young visitors can try their hand at "excavating" a chocolate chip cookie with basic tools and create trace fossils from molds and casts. Toolmakers will shape stone into spear points and weavers will turn plant fibers into baskets and rope, as ancient Texans did. The event is free with admission. The institute is at 801 E. Arbor Day Celebration
Alamo Forestry Partnership presents an event in which families are invited to plant trees in Lincoln Park. Activities include tree safety, sawmill demonstration, chainsaw sculptor, and awards to organizations recognized for their tree preservation, planting and education community service.
