Which Storytime is Right for Your Child? These categories are intended only as guidelines to help parents select sessions that their children will most enjoy. They are not rigid requirements for attending storytimes. • Library Lapsit (Birth-2 years)Infant Lapsits introduce the sounds and rhythms of language to our youngest library users. Nursery rhymes, songs, and the simplest of stories build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Parents and caregivers should plan on attending these storytimes with their infants. Some library locations ask parents to register for these sessions. Please call your branch for details. • Toddler Time (Ages 2-3)Designed for the short attention span of the typical 2-year-old, this program consists of very simple picture books, fingerplays, and songs. Parents and caregivers are asked to sit with their children and help them participate in the activities. Approximately 20 minutes. • Storytime (Ages 2-5)With an appealing combination of new and familiar stories, songs, and poems, Storytime broadens the younger children’s horizons while reinforcing the pleasure of reading in the more “grown-up” 5 year olds. Simple crafts are sometimes a part of this program. Approximately 30 minutes. • Family Fun (All Ages)Designed for families with children of various ages to enjoy as a group, Family Fun features picture books and simple crafts. Librarians often tailor these programs, on the spot, to the age and interests of the audience on hand. Sessions can include crafts and special guests. Length of the program varies with the age and attention span of the participants. If you have a group of children to bring to the library from a school or child care center, please call the children's librarian at your branch to make arrangements for your visit.
